At least 5800 years old, the Sweet Track is attributed to the Neolithic culture of the Somerset Levels, England. It was discovered in 1970 during peat excavations and is named after its finder, Ray Sweet. The Sweet track is made of timber, mainly oak planks supported by crossed pegs of ash, oak, and lime, and features a causeway built to cross marshland, with wooden components preserved in peat.
